The Long Trail Brewing Company is a privately owned brewery located in Bridgewater Corners, Vermont. A drive out to the Brewery might be considered “off the beaten path” but it’s worth it to check out their eco-friendly brewing facility, have lunch and sample some fine beverages in their onsite brewpub.

Triple Bag pours a dark amber color with a thick white head. Appears to be lightly carbonated.

A complex nose, there is a lot of malt but not much to be said for hop aromas. Picking up some dark fruits, the alcohol is present in the nose as well.

This is definitely a beer to sit and sip, enjoy slowly. Tastes of dark fruit, raisins or plums. There is a sweetness that comes through, toffee and caramel, definitely malty. There is a bit of bitterness here but not strong, just enough in the mix to help balance things out. Alcohol is a strong component of the flavor, present in the mouth but also carries a warming sensation with swallow.

Triple bag is a full bodied beer; the flavors and heat from the alcohol don’t dissipate immediately.

Overall I’d say this is a rich and complex ale that isn’t going to please everyone’s palate.  I would definitely recommend Triple Bag to the craft beer fan who loves to sit and sip on big beers. That’s the type of drinker who’s going to enjoy this limited release from Long Trail.

Cheers!
