Coaster Critique: N’ice Chouffe

On the Eighth day of Beermas…..

Name: N’ice Chouffe

Brewed by: Brasserie d’Achouffe

ABV: 10%

Purchased: Burby and Bates, Orono Maine

Poured a very deep red color, dark enough that it almost appears shadowy, pour raised a short, light tan head.

Smells of dark malts, light chocolate notes, I’m also picking up some spice and citrus. There is a dark fruit smell and just a hint of Belgian yeast.

Very rich flavor that has a bready malt character and brown sugar sweetness. The dark fruit flavors in this beer remind me of plums and raisins. I’m picking up some spices and orange peel faintly in the background. There is a slight warming sensation in the mouth and throat but that is it from the alcohol.

Overall a nice holiday sipper, and I say sipper because at 10% ABV and sold in a large bottle this one is a good one to split with a friend, or have it all yourself but don’t plan on going anywhere afterwards.

Cheers!
