Name: 19 original colonies mead
Brewed By: Rogue Ales, OR
ABV:
Style: Mead
Purchased: Bangor Wine and Cheese
I’m a big fan of Rogue’s beers so when I saw this bottle of 19 Original Colonies Mead on the shelf at Bangor Wine and Cheese I had to give it a try.
Rogue’s Mead is crystal clear with a nice steady carbonation. It’s a light golden color and looks very bright in the glass.
The smell is sweet; wildflower honey is very noticeable, picking up notes of jasmine as well. This mead has a very floral aroma that is pleasant and inviting.
The taste is not as sweet as I expected, there are notes of honey but it’s not overpowering at all. There is a slight herbal flavor from the jasmine. This mead is very light on the palate, very crisp and clean with a dry, wine like finish.
Overall I’m really impressed, I’ve had meads that ranged from a sickeningly sweet glass of honey to fruit infused dry wine, this one definitely leans towards dry wine. The jasmine adds a very pleasant flavor and aroma. If you are a fan of light dry wines or looking for a good intro to mead I would recommend this one, it drinks really easy and has a reasonable price tag. This mead might not be easy to find, i’ve only seen it around a few times but Honeymaker Mead out of Portland is excellent and should be easier to find.
