Coaster Critique: Green Monsta

Tomorrow (4-8-2013) is the Boston Red Sox home opener, if you are heading to the ballpark to watch the game or staying at home to cheer on the team from your living room, nothing pairs better with peanuts and Crackerjack than a craft beer. I attended my first game last season and my beer of choice was Wachusett Green Monsta IPA.

Name: Green Monsta

Brewed By: Wachusett Brewing Company

ABV: 6%

Style: India Pale Ale

Green Monsta poured a hazy, golden-copper color with a short white head that settled quickly.

The hops are prominent in the nose, it smells of fresh cut grass and some notes of pine. The malt smells of toasted grains and caramel.

Green Monsta has a hop forward flavor, grassy, some citrus. The malt body has a light caramel flavor, but not sweet, and some toasted grains, it reminds me a little bit of baked bread. The beer has a medium body, lightly carbonated and finishes with an easy bitterness that doesn’t tire the palate out.

Overall a solid IPA, I don’t usually enjoy IPA’s with that fresh cut grass flavor as much as other IPA’s but Wachusett Green Monsta is always welcome in my beer fridge. It was also nice to see a locally brewed craft beer available at Fenway, if I’m going to pay top dollar for a cup of beer I want it to be something flavorful that I’ll truly enjoy.

Go Sox!
