Coaster Critique: Mountain Man

Name: Mountain Man

Brewed By: Penobscot Bay Brewery in collaboration with the Crew from Nocturnem Draft Haus

Style: Double IPA

ABV: 8.5%

Poured from the tap at Nocturnem’s 2nd anniversary party, poured very clear, golden in color with almost no head.

Nice floral hoppy nose, grapefruit, pine and a slight caramel sweetness, it smells delicious.

Nice and hoppy up front, grapefruit, orange, pine and a slight grassy, earthy flavor. Mid sip the hops flavor gave way to a caramel sweetness and a real mellow bitterness, the alcohol is noticeable but plays well in this beer. The finish is clean with a lingering hop flavor.

The tap list for the evening

Overall a really nice DIPA, lots of hop flavor and a nice alcohol kick, enough bitterness to make a hophead smile without being overwhelmed. Congratulations Gene Beck and the staff of Nocturnem Draft Haus,  I raise my glass to two years and many more and a special thanks to Brandon Mountain, who the beer is named for, best of luck in your future endeavors.

Cheers!
