I picked up this growler of Ryezome from the Fiddlehead Brewery tasting room while visiting family in Vermont, their beer is not available in Maine.
Ryezome pours a cloudy yellow/gold color; pour raised a short, bone white head that fell pretty quickly. This beer looks like a Hefeweizen.
Interesting smelling beer, picking out a piney hop aroma maybe a splash of lemon, the rye is pretty distinct and through all of that there is still a trace of wheat, a very pleasant smelling beer.
Wow, ok right up front it’s reminiscent of sipping a Hefeweizen, wheat is the first thing I taste but where I would expect banana, cloves and yeast I get a nice citrus flavor, lemon, orange and mango which is slightly tart and then the rye shows up to compliment that tart flavor with just a hint of spice. Medium body, steady carbonation and finishes with a citrusy/rye aftertaste that just makes me want to keep drinking.
Overall super impressed, I jumped on a growler of Ryezome when I heard the guy in the tasting room describe it to another customer as a “tart wheat beer with rye”, the thought of this peaked my interest and I purchased the growler without even sampling and I’m happy to say it was worth every penny, this is a really delightful beer, lots going on in the flavor but it’s still an easy drinking wheat beer, I would recommend this to anyone, and now I wish I’d gotten the big growler instead of the small one.
Cheers!
