Weez pours black, no light is breaking through this one, pour raised a lively milk chocolate colored head.

A lovely smelling beer, the hops are very floral, piney with some citrus notes but they are delicate enough to let through some roasty malted grain aromas with hints of chocolate.

The nose on this beer does well to reveal the flavor, I get a lot of malt up front, dark roasted grains, a slight husky flavor and bittersweet chocolate which I really like, I’m sure the bitter is from the hops but the way it plays off the malt allows it to transition well into the hops flavor which have a piney/grassy flavor and leave a lingering citrus flavor on the lips. Weez is medium bodied with a dry finish.

Overall a really nice beer, I’m not sure whether I’d call this a black IPA or a hoppy porter and the wife agreed, either way it’s nice drinking beer with a flavorful malt body and a lovely hoppiness.

Cheers!

Name: Another One

Brewed By: Maine Beer Company

Style: India Pale Ale

ABV: 7%

Another One pours a very hazy, golden straw color with a frothy pure white head.

Smells very fruity, grapefruit, pineapple, mango with a hint of pine and grass, malts present themselves as toasted grains, no sweet notes standing out to me.

The hops dominate the flavor as I would expect from an IPA, the piney, grassy flavors are right up front but are accompanied by a juicy, tropical fruity flavor and a moderately aggressive bitterness. Malt is toasty, grainy, bready in flavor maybe a hint of caramel but not overly sweet. This beer has a medium body, steady carbonation and a dry finish.

Overall an IPA I could drink again and again, I love the hop profile in this and the slightly aggressive bitterness is on point, I could easily enjoy a couple of these without killing my palate but satisfying my love of hops.  I’m glad I was able to try both Weez and Another One, the hops shine in both but play off the malt profiles different, both are very enjoyable and worth a try.

Cheers!
