Coaster Critique: Southern Tier Warlock

Name: Warlock

Brewed By: Southern Tier Brewing Company

ABV: 8.6%

Style: Imperial Stout brewed with Pumpkin

Pours a deep black color with deep red highlights when held to the light, pour raised a frothy tan head that settled slowly.

Smells of pumpkin spice and dark roasted grains.

The first flavor I pick up is the pumpkin spice, this beer is reminiscent of Southern Tier Pumking but not nearly as sweet, the dark roasted malts and easy bitterness do well to add some balance to the spice, alcohol was noticeable in the taste but not strong. The beer has a medium to full body, light carbonation and a light spice aftertaste.

Overall I’d say this is a better than average pumpkin beer, I liked it better than Pumking due to the fact that it was less sweet and the spices were more balanced but I don’t think it’s the best imperial pumpkin stout out there. Definitely worth a shot if you’re a fan of pumpkin beers.

Cheers!
