Coaster Critique: Newcastle Werewolf

Name: Newcastle Werewolf

Brewed By: Caledonian Brewery Company Limited

Style: Red Ale

ABV: 4.5%

Werewolf pours a shadowy red color with deep amber highlights when held to the light. Pour produced a thin white head.

The nose has a sweet malty character, notes of fruit and bready yeast come through as well.

Taste is similar to that of Newcastle Brown ale. The Initial sip is smooth and slightly fruity, after swallowing the flavor changes to a rye bread flavor. This beer is a bit thin and leaves me with a slightly buttery, slick mouthfeel.

Overall a pretty easy drinking beer, Newcastle Brown ale was a gateway beer for me and Werewolf  reminds me of that beer with a rye twist. If you enjoy Newcastle beers you should give this one a shot.
