Coaster Critique: Harpoon Brewing, Winter Warmer

On the First day of Beermas….

Name: Winter Warmer

Brewed By: Harpoon Brewing Company

Style: Winter Warmer

ABV: 5.9%

Pours a reddish copper color, when held to the light it picks up some golden highlights, pour produced a thick off white head that held on the entire glass.

Rich malty aroma, has a touch of spice, nutmeg maybe ginger.

First sip is sweet, malty then transitions to a dry, slightly spicy finish. The spice isn’t as aggressive in the flavor as it was in the aroma but it’s still there and lends a nice balance to the maltiness of this beer. There is just a hint of earthy, citrusy hops in the background, real subtle though; this beer is about the malt and spice.

Overall a nice balanced winter warmer, the alcohol content isn’t excessive so you can have a couple without getting too crazy, I’m not generally a fan of spiced beer this one is very mellow, more about the pleasant aroma than drinking a spice rack.

Cheers!
