Coaster Critique: Sebago Brewing Co. Bump

Name: BumpPour
Brewed by: Sebago Brewing Company
Style: Black Ale
ABV: 5.3%

Bump pours black as night with a creamy off-white head, when held to the light the beer takes on a dark brown color with ruby highlights.

The beer smells of dark roasted grains, hints of smoke, chocolate and earthy hops.

First sip is surprisingly light and crisp. Malt comes through with a touch of husky grains, toast, dark chocolate and light roast coffee. Hops finish the sip, earth, wet wood, a slight citrusy bite in the aftertaste and a dry finish.

Bump is exactly what I hoped for when I picked up the bottle. I sincerely hoped that the hops would be a team player and not steal the show, that this would be a flavorful black ale and not try to be a black IPA. Sebago nailed it with this beer, flavorful and thirst quenching, a nice transition away from the stouts and barleywines that are in heavy rotation during the winter months to something that makes me think of melting snow and new grass growing.

Cheers
