Portland, Maine’s newest craft brewery, Foundation Brewing Company, has announced that  in February they started production on two beers and are on target to release them in early March. The first two beers to be released by Foundation are Eddy a Saison and Blaze which is a farmhouse style IPA.

Foundation Brewing Company was started by co-founders Joel Mahaffey and John Bonney, who met at the Central Street Farmhouse homebrew club in Bangor, Maine.  After two years of planning the brewing partners opened the brewery in late 2013 at Portland’s One Industrial Way in the original home of two other Maine breweries, Maine Beer Company and Rising Tide. Foundation Brewing Company’s goal is to produce high quality, innovative beers that are balanced and approachable.

“We’re thrilled to be officially brewing our first batches of beer. Foundation Brewing embraces a global view of beer styles and our goal is to produce every day, highly drinkable beer that will surprise you,” said Joel Mahaffey, co-founder of Foundation Brewing Company. “Eddy and Blaze are designed to be flavorful, aromatic and satisfying, while keeping the alcohol content in check.”

Commercial Description of the beer:

Eddy is a farmhouse style ale, also known as a Saison. Dry in taste and light in body and color, it has herbal and floral notes that blend with the spice and fruit flavors of Foundation’s house yeast.

Blaze is a traditional Saison and American IPA hybrid, a marriage of classic American hop flavors with the fruity, spicy nature of Foundation’s farmhouse yeast.
