American Pale Ale was originally brewed in the United Kingdom as a collaboration with Marston’s Beer Company, who owns the Ringwood brewery where Shipyard’s Master Brewer Alan Pugsley got his start in brewing. The original collaboration batch was brewed on July 4, 2012 in the UK and named Independence Pale Ale. The American-style ale was a hit with the UK beer drinking crowd and Shipyard decided to brew their own interpretation back in Maine.
