Coaster Critique: Geary’s Ixnay

Name: IxnayIMG_5303

Brewed By: D.L. Geary Brewing Company

Style: Gluten Free

ABV: 4.7%

Pours a shadowy bronze color with golden highlights and a pure white head, the beer is bright and clear in the glass.

Smells of yeast, bread, toasted malts, slightly sweet with just a touch of earthy hops.

Initial sip is malty, sweet, toasted grains. The hops present themselves mid sip with an earthiness, some slight spice with a pleasant balanced bitterness. Mouthfeel is thin, almost hollow like something is missing, finish is dry.

I’ve sampled many gluten free beers, I’ve even homebrewed them and generally speaking the ones that are brewed like a standard beer and have the gluten removed are better tasting, Ixnay falls into that category. A bit on the thin side which I would expect from a gluten removed beer, Ixnay is exceptionally refreshing and will be a great option in the heat of summer. For Celiac’s who were at one time fans of Geary’s beers this beer with be familiar as it has that distinct Geary’s flavor. I would recommend this beer to anyone looking for a light bodied, refreshing beer whether they were celiac or not, pick one up and give it a shot, you may be surprised at what you find.

Cheers,

Chaddah
