Deck drinking to improve your mood

My office has three windows; none of those windows look outside. I get very little natural light during the day unless I happen to be outside or near a window somewhere else in the building. Since I’m at work 40+ hours a week I try to get outside in the sun as often as possible during the warmer months, which brings me to my topic, Deck Drinking.

Checking out the view from the newly opened deck at The Family Dog in Orono.

Sun exposure helps your body produce Vitamin D, it’s also believed to help reduce blood pressure, trigger the release of serotonin and endorphins making you feel good, more awake and alert. Compliment that with some vitamin “B” (beer), good food and good company and you are bound to see an improvement in your mood.

I don’t know that I need to say much more, grab some friends and head for a local establishment with a deck, sit in the warm sun with a cold beer and thank me later.

Here are a handful of spots with a deck, patio or bier Garden to grab some sun, food and brews:

The Family Dog – Orono

The Boomhouse – Old Town

Nocturnem Draft Haus – BangorIMG_0010

Sea Dog Brewpub – Bangor

Geaghan’s Pub and Brewery – Bangor

Novare Res – Portland

The Thirsty Pig – Portland

Flatbread Company – Portland

Sunday River Brewpub – Bethel

3 Tides – Belfast

Cockeyed Gull – Peaks Island

The Ramp – Kennebunkport
