Coaster Critique: Oak Pond White Fox Ale

Name: White Fox AlePour

Brewed By: Oak Pond Brewery

Style: IPA

ABV: ? (Not listed on label)

White Fox Ale pours a bright copper color with golden highlights, vigorous pour produced a short white had that fell to a thin layer that lasted the remainder of the glass.

Aroma is malt heavy, reminds me of a baking biscuits. The hops are detectable but not strong, they come across as slightly spicy and a bit grassy.

Initial sip is malty, baked bread and toasted grains, a touch of sweetness that dissipates quickly as the mild hop bitter kicks in. The hops have a bit of a grassy/spicy flavor that matches what I picked up in the aroma, there is a bit of citrus on the tail end. Medium bodied with a light carbonation and a clean mouthfeel and a dry finish.

Overall a beer worth checking out. I enjoy the Oak Pond’s beers, I don’t often find them because their distribution is limited but I always stop by for a sample when I see them at a brewfest. White Fox Ale reminds me a bit of a an English bitter, it’s their version of an IPA but slightly more malty with a light hop flavor and an easy bitterness, maybe not quite what people expect out of an IPA these days, but that’s ok. If you get the opportunity check them out in Skowhegan, they do tours and the growler prices are very reasonable.

Cheers!
