Coaster Critique: Sierra Nevada – Allagash Brewing Myron’s Walk

Sierra Nevada Brewing Company released a limited edition Beer Camp 12 pack this year, it contained 12 different beers brewed in collaboration with breweries from across the country. One of the collaborations included was brewed with Maine’s own Allagash Brewing Company.

Name: Myron’s Walkpour

Brewed by: Sierra Nevada Brewing Company in collaboration with Allagash Brewing Company

Style: Belgian-style Pale ale

ABV: 5.3%

Myron’s Walk pours crystal clear in the glass, a bright golden straw color with a bone white head.

Aroma initially strikes me as peppery, a spicy Belgian yeast melding with a piney hop aroma a touch of citrus and bready malt hinting in the background.

Beginning of the sip I’m greeted with a clean, crisp malt body that is followed by a distinct Belgian yeast spice. Hops present themselves about mid-sip with a pleasant evergreen flavor, almost a cooling sensation on my tongue that may be a sensation imparted by the coriander that sneaks in right at the tail end.

I think this is an interesting beer, it feels to me like a combination of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Allagash White. Initially I enjoyed the flavor of this beer but as it warmed up and I continued drinking I found the coriander spice combined with Belgian yeast and piney hops that initially felt like a “cooling sensation” on my tongue became more aggressive to the point that It was a bit like drinking a beer with a breath mint in my mouth. Not to say I didn’t enjoy the beer I just don’t think I’d want more than one of these if it was to become a regular release beer. If you had the opportunity to try this beer I’d love to know what you thought, if you got a similar flavor/sensation. If you missed the 12 pack release fear not, you still have a chance to check it out at the Beer Camp block party being hosted by Sebago Brewing Company or you can attend Sierra Nevada Beer Camp Across America Brewfest on August 1st, tickets are still available.

Cheers!
