Coaster Critique: Samuel Adams Harvest Saison

Name: Samuel Adams Harvest SaisonIMG_6596

Brewed By: The Boston Beer Company

Style: Saison

ABV: 6%

Harvest Saison pours cloudy, light amber in color with yellow-gold highlights and an off white head.

Nose is malty, wheat and toasted grains followed by a spicy belgian yeast aroma, maybe a touch of rye in there as well.

Interesting flavor, lots of malt flavors mingling in there, wheat, oats and a light toasty grain flavor hit me up front with a sharp rye bite. The Saison yeast finishes off the sip with a dry spiciness but is truly a secondary flavor after the malt. Mixed into the yeasty finish is just a hint of earthy hops.

I’ve come to terms with the fact that summer has come to a close and doing the best that I can to embrace the fall seasonals, Sam Adams Harvest Saison is kicking things off for me. I enjoyed this beer, there is a lot of flavor swirling around in there and it’s interesting to find saison that has the yeast subdued by the malt profile. I’m not sure this is a beer I could drink two of back to back, but to throw on a hoodie and sit by a late season fire this would be a good one to take along.

Cheers
