Coaster Critique: NDH/Banded Horn Oktoberfest von Nacht

Name: Oktoberfest von NachtIMG_6788

Brewed By: Nocturnem Draft Haus in collaboration with Banded Horn Brewing Company

Style: Marzen

ABV: 5.2%

Oktoberfest von Nacht showed up at the table in a mug, deep copper in color with gold highlights and a short, bone white head.

Nose is malt forward, smells like grainy, fresh baked bread, a hint of toffee sweetness and a hint of earthy hops mingle in the background.

Flavor is malt driven, yeasty bread, toasted grains, a bit sweet to start but dries out through the sip and finishes super clean with just a touch of hop bitterness to keep everything in balance. Medium body, medium carbon, smooth and easy drinking.

Overall a beer you need to check out while it’s available. Oktoberfest von Nacht does not fall in line with some Oktoberfest beers that are sickly sweet and out of balance, instead a fine balance of malt body and mild hops keeps Oktoberfest von Nacht smooth and easy to drink, maybe too easy to drink as I found my mug empty faster than I had anticipated. This beer is based on a homebrew recipe developed by Steven Padgett, a Nocturnem employee, Banded Horn hasn’t brewed a beer that I didn’t enjoy and Oktoberfest von Nacht did not disappoint. The beer is very approachable even if the name isn’t, I would recommend it to anyone, so just find a seat and order it by the number on the list, it was #1 last night.

Cheers!
