Coaster Critique: 21st Amendment Fireside Chat

On the ninth day of Beermas:

Fireside chat

Name: Fireside Chat

Brewed By: 21st Amendment

Style: Winter Spiced Ale

ABV: 7.9%

Pours a deep, dark brown approaching black, when held to the light the beer glows dark red. pour produced a thick, off-white head that left lacing down the glass.

A pleasant smelling beer that nails the winter holiday feel. Dark chocolate, raisins, orange zest, brown sugar, cloves and nutmeg.

Flavor is sweet and malty up front, hints of chocolate and brown sugar are kept in check by a roasty, husky grain bite. Mid sip there are dark fruit flavors, dates and raisins followed closely by orange zest, cloves, nutmeg maybe a hint of cinnamon. Finish is surprising clean for a spiced beer.

Overall I enjoyed this beer, it’s spiced up which I normally don’t care for but it’s not like drinking the spice rack, there are plenty of other flavors happening here and it keeps everything balanced nicely. The name is spot on, this isn’t a beer I’d drag along to a party, it’s an evening sipper by the fire with a good book just relaxing and staying warm on a cold evening. Check this one out.

Cheers!
