Brewed By: Banded Horn Brewing Company
Style: Pilsener
ABV: 4.6%
Pepperell Pilsener pours hazy, with a yellow-gold color with a thick pure white head that leaves delicate lacing down the glass.
The nose is a pleasant blend of malt and hops. The malt strikes me first with a mild yeasty, baked bread aroma followed then by an earthy, slightly peppery hop profile.
The flavor follows the aroma closely, the malt body reminds me of freshly baked yeast rolls. The hops are a finishing flavor, slightly herbal with a peppery note, they also add a slight bitterness to keep everything in balance. Mouthfeel is light to medium with a crisp dry finish.
I’ll wrap this review up by saying that pilseners are not my favorite style, I prefer an ale to a lager to begin with and in the lager category pilsener is my least favorite, this beer is the exception to the rule for me. Pepperell Pilsener hits all the right flavor notes with a beautiful hop profile to balance it all out and landing at 4.6% ABV it lends itself to drinking a few back to back. Pepperell Pilsener is a perfect beer to bring to that friend who drinks BMC (Bud/Miller/Coors) beers, show them a better option in a craft beer.
Cheers!
