History On Tap
Geaghan Brothers Brewing Company and the Bangor Historical Society have teamed up to put on a homebrew competition, the winning recipe will be brewed on a commercial scale by Geaghan Brothers for a limited edition release.
“We’re looking for recipes that use ingredients or methods that are historic or traditional in nature,” Geaghan Brothers Communications and Resource Manager Lisa Sturgeon said. “Beer has been around for centuries—we love the idea of today’s home brewers creating recipes that blend those traditions with today’s process.”
Homebrewers who intend on entering the contest should visit Central Street Farmhouse in Downtown Bangor or the Bangor Historical Society’s website for a contest entry form. Completed forms and samples should be dropped off at Central Street Farmhouse between Monday, July 6 and Friday July 10th along with a $25 entry fee. All entry fees and proceeds from related events will benefit the Bangor Historical Society.
Entries will be judged on July 11th and 12th by a panel of tasters including Zeth Lundy of Central Street Farmhouse and representatives from Geaghan Brothers Brewing and the Bangor Historical Society with a winner announced on July 13th. The winning beer will be brewed on a commercial scale by Geaghan Brothers Brewing and unveiled in September at an event on the Bangor Waterfront.
The winner will also receive a $100 gift card to Geaghan’s Pub and Craft Brewery and a copy of Stephen Harrod Buhner’s book “Sacred and Herbal Healing Beers” as well as a $25 gift certificate to Central Street Farmhouse and a gift pack from the Bangor Historical Society.
Time to do some historical research and fire a brew kettle, with a big prize package plus bragging rights in the mix this should be a fun contest to enter.
Cheers
