Geaghan Brothers Brewing debuts new tasting room

Geaghan Brothers Brewing has added a tasting room to their Abbot Street brewery in Brewer, Maine. The brewery has an open bay that is used for staging outbound loads and receiving inbound freight that will double as a tasting room at the tail end of each week. The back of the bay leads to the walk in cooler, lines have been run from the cooler through the wall for taps, a chalkboard lists the 8 different beers available at any given time and a brand new stainless steel bar has been brought in, there will be tables out during tasting room hours and they had a cornhole set out to play.

The bar is definitely eye catching, fabricated by Tigpro in Portland it’s all stainless with a built in sink system and maybe the best feature of all, it’s moveable, the base has two cut outs so the entire bar can be picked up and moved with a forklift, maybe an outside event in the future?

I spoke with Andy Geaghan, Head Brewer at Geaghan Brothers who informed me that they wanted to get people into the brewery and at the same time relieve some pressure at the pub. If you’ve ever tried to run into Geaghan’s Pub for a pint or growler fill during dinner service you’ll understand, they get busy over there, so instead of standing at the pub to get a growler fill you can head across the river and fill it at the brewery and get a 5 or 10 ounce pour while you wait. As for the variety there will be 8 beers on tap at all times and Andy tells me “We’ll always have some difference, the beers in Bangor aren’t always what will be pouring in Brewer.”

The tasting room will be open tonight, Friday October 2, 2015 starting at 5pm and on Saturday from 12-7pm for Maine Craft Weekend. Going forward they plan to have the brewery tasting room open Thursdays and Friday from 5-9pm and Saturdays 12-7pm.

Tasting room prices:

  • 5oz pour – $2
  • 10oz pour – $3
  • 64oz Growler Fill – $12
  • 32oz Growler Fill – $9.50

Follow Geaghan Brothers Brewing on Facebook for updates and go check out the tasting room at 34 Abbott Street in Brewer, sample some beers and stare at all the pretty stainless tanks, that’s what I’d do anyway.

Cheers,

Chaddah
